The United Nations General Assembly has indeed adopted the resolution A/79/L.75 on cooperation with the Council of Europe
This document, proposed by Lithuania and Luxembourg, supports the protection of human rights, the rule of law, and democracy.
However, special attention was drawn to its part, which condemns the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Nine countries voted against adopting the resolution, including the USA.
In addition to the USA, eight other countries voted against, including Russia, Belarus, Eritrea, Congo, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, and Sudan. This is the second time that the United States has voted against a UN resolution condemning Kremlin aggression.
105 countries voted in favor of the resolution.
Another 52 countries abstained, including China, India, Kazakhstan, Argentina, and South Africa.
Israel, in turn, “did not participate” in the voting, leaving its position unexpressed.
Israel did not participate in the vote, and its position remained unexpressed — next to the country’s name, no sign appears (neither “in favor,” nor “against,” nor “abstained”), which could mean either a technical failure or the absence of a delegation at the time of the vote.
By the way, the same sign appears for another 42 countries in the voting results.
