Israel's Foreign Ministry said the Pope's statements about the war in Gaza were untrue.

Israel's Foreign Ministry has denied Pope Francis' comments about the brutality of the war in the Gaza Strip, saying they are divorced from the truth and context of the fight against jihadist terrorism since early October 2023.

The department noted that responsibility for the situation lies with Hamas, accusing them of holding hostages and using children as human shields.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry stressed that cruelty is the practice of radicals in Arab countries, while the Jewish state seeks to prevent harm to civilians. They also stressed that the Pope's statements do not reflect the reality on many fronts in the fight against terrorism in the region.
