Iron Dome will not be able to protect Europe from Russian missiles due to problems with technology and political aspects, says NATO

General Pierre Vandier argues that if Russia has the ability to attack Europe 2,000 km away, then NATO must have an appropriate response to this. He believes that the idea of ​​creating a missile defense system in Europe to protect against Russian ballistic missiles is questionable.

Even creating an Iron Dome like the one in Israel would not be effective due to the size of the continent and technological limitations. Vandier emphasized the need to develop long-range strike capabilities to ensure an adequate response to threats.

He noted that effective deterrence requires aggressive measures that would put pressure on a potential adversary. In his opinion, if Russia is capable of striking Europe over a distance of 2,000 km, then NATO must be ready to retaliate. Vandier compared Europe's approach to current challenges to the behavior of dinosaurs who did not realize the danger of an approaching catastrophe.

He also noted that most Europeans are too careless about threats, believing that current resources will suffice. However, he called for greater vigilance and investment in security given changing circumstances. Russia has already withdrawn from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, and Europe is not serious about adapting to the new reality.

France is reportedly developing a new medium-range ballistic missile in response to Russia's use of the Oreshnik missile.
