Iran made a serious mistake and will be punished for it, Netanyahu said.

At a political and security meeting, Netanyahu said Iran had made a serious mistake for which it would have to pay. “Iran attacked Israel again this evening with hundreds of missiles, but the attack was unsuccessful thanks to Israeli air defense.” Netanyahu stressed that “Iran made a mistake and will bear responsibility for it.”

Israel's UN representative warned that Iran would feel the consequences of its actions and the response would be painful. Israel notified Iran of a possible harsh response to an attack on Israeli territory.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said America would cooperate with Israel in response to the Iranian attack, calling the situation a “significant escalation.” Consequences are being planned for provoking Iran.

Miller did not reveal whether Iran's nuclear program was a target for Israeli retaliation, but noted a plan to discuss the consequences with Israeli counterparts. The Iranian missile attack was repelled thanks to cooperation between the United States, Israel and their partners.

Following Netanyahu's announcement, the Iranian military warned Israel's allies of possible attacks on the “bases and interests” of Israeli supporters in the region if they intervene directly. Iran threatens “large-scale destruction” of Israeli infrastructure in response to any Israeli actions.
