Under international law, even enemy bodies must be treated properly by soldiers. The IDF called the incident serious and said it was being investigated. Two other incidents occurred that day: a shootout with Palestinians that left three dead, and an airstrike on a car that left four militants dead.

Five of the wounded were evacuated to a hospital in Jenin. The situation has sparked outrage and investigations in the country and beyond.
