Hamas has agreed to a UN proposal to temporarily halt hostilities to allow mass polio vaccinations for children in the Gaza Strip. The organization has also demanded humanitarian aid for two million Palestinians. The UN Secretary-General stressed that the safety of the vaccinations must be guaranteed.

Israel has not yet commented on Hamas's statement, but earlier began a large-scale vaccination of its troops in the Gaza Strip due to the discovery of the polio virus. The vaccinations are being carried out for both regular and reservist troops in order to ensure the safety of soldiers and citizens.
