The Haifa City Hall has decided to hold the Hag Ha-Hagim festival this year, combining the holidays of Hanukkah and Christmas. This will be the 31st “Feast of Holidays”, connecting Jewish and Arab cultures. Last year the festival was canceled due to bloodshed, but new mayor Yona Yahav decided to hold it this year despite rocket attacks and war in the surrounding area.
The festival is scheduled for 13 days, from December 17 to 29, with 30 events, including concerts, performances and exhibitions in various cultural centers of the city. Despite discussions about the location of the festival during the war period, the mayor of Haifa decided to hold the event as part of promoting the peaceful coexistence of different cultures in the city.
The city newspaper Kolbo quotes opponents of the festival, pointing to the difficult situation in the country, where military operations continue and cities are subject to rocket attacks. Some Haifa residents express dissatisfaction with the celebration during such a difficult period and have a negative attitude towards the initiative of the new mayor to hold the festival.
