ANU – Museum of the Jewish People screening of a documentary film “After the rain: Children stolen by Putin return home”which tells the story of the illegal deportation of thousands of Ukrainian children to Russia, their separation from their parents and attempts to return them home.
Documentary film directed by Sarah McCarthy. Executive producer Sheila Nevins, producers Olga Beskhmelnitsyna and George Chignell. The film is in Ukrainian and Russian with English subtitles. After the screening, a discussion with the authors of the film in English is planned.

After the rain: the return of Ukraine's stolen children
Thousands of Ukrainian families suffered a terrible ordeal: their children were illegally taken to Russia and separated from their parents. The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Putin, accusing him of deporting more than 20,000 Ukrainian children. The documentary After the Rain shows how families recover from this tragedy through therapy with animals and fight to get their children back.
The history of the Mezhev family: a voice on the world stage
The Mezhev family from Mariupol became a symbol of this tragedy. The father, Evgeny Mezhevoy, survived torture in a Russian prison while they tried to place his three children – Svyatoslav, Alexandra and Matvey – into Russian families.

Therapists note that the combination of nature, animals and professional support has produced amazing results. Despite the horrors, children and adults retained the ability to laugh.

Cinematic evidence: documentary as a tool of struggle
Sarah McCarthy, a famous documentarian, created the film “After the Rain,” in which she told the stories of the Mezhev and Vlasov families.
