Israel will not close its embassy in Kyiv, Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky said, despite warnings of a “major attack” by Russia on the Ukrainian capital that has caused other Western countries to close their missions over security concerns.
“We are currently working as usual,” Brodsky told the publication. The Times of Israel.
GUR of Ukraine: “Today, a message is being spread on social networks, allegedly on behalf of the department, about the threat of a “particularly massive” missile and bomb attack on Ukrainian cities. The GUR emphasized that such messages are fake, typical of Russian information and psychological operations, and also contain grammatical errors.
The agency urges citizens to trust information only from official sources.”
The situation in Kyiv has escalated: four foreign embassies – the USA, Spain, Italy and Greece – have temporarily ceased their work due to information about a possible large-scale attack by Russia.
Which embassies have closed and why?
According to diplomatic statements:
- USA: The embassy was closed on November 20 after reports of a possible powerful air attack. Americans in Ukraine were advised to stay in shelters.
- Spain: Stopped work for the day, citing a high risk of shelling.
- Italy: Closed its representative office, calling for compliance with safety measures.
- Greece: Left the embassy closed on November 20, asking citizens to avoid travel.
This comes as analysts warn about Russia's use of RS-26 Rubezh missiles with a range of up to 6,000 kilometers.
Reaction of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine
Representatives of Ukraine confirm the high probability of rocket attacks. The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council, Andrei Kovalenko, recalled that Russia has accumulated a significant stockpile of weapons for attacks. “Russian strategic aviation and navy are ready to launch strikes at any moment,” he said.
Why did Israel leave the embassy open?
Israel's decision to continue operating its embassy in Kyiv has become the subject of discussion. The Israeli diplomatic corps always emphasizes that the safety of its personnel is a priority. However, in this case, the refusal to evacuate symbolizes support for the Ukrainian people.
Israeli representatives do not officially comment on the situation, but their actions inspire respect and show solidarity with Ukraine.
The threat doesn't go away
Russian attacks on Ukraine continue: in recent days alone, dozens of missiles and drones have been used, including against energy infrastructure. For example, on the night of November 20, Russia fired six different types of missiles and 122 drones, increasing pressure on Ukrainian air defense.
Recommendations for citizens
The American Embassy has provided the following advice to its citizens:
- Check local news regularly.
- Know in advance the location of the nearest shelters.
- Take cover immediately in case of an air raid.
- Follow the instructions of the Ukrainian authorities and emergency services.
