Josep Borrell condemned what happened in the Palestinian settlement of Jit and the “virtual impunity” of Israeli settlers who encourage violence in the West Bank.
On August 15, 2024, an act of aggression occurred in Jita, when a group of Jews set fire to the houses and cars of Palestinians.
Borrell proposed new sanctions against Israeli settlers in the West Bank following the Jita incident, stressing the need to stop inciting violence.
He also said he intends to submit a proposal to impose sanctions against those who encourage violence, including certain Israeli government ministers.
