Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is currently experiencing disappointment with US President Donald Trump, with whom he previously had a close relationship. The reason for this view is Trump’s policy regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine, reports GBNews.
Just six months ago, when Trump shocked the European community with an unexpected conversation with Vladimir Putin, Johnson actively defended him. The former prime minister then compared European leaders to “headless chickens” who act chaotically without a clear plan.
However, after Trump’s meeting with Putin, which took place in Alaska, Johnson seems to have decided to change his opinion. He expresses dissatisfaction that the American president is trying to position himself as a mediator between the two sides of the conflict, which, in Johnson’s opinion, are not equal at all.
“I understand people’s frustration with how the White House considers the moral equivalence between Russia and Ukraine. This is simply unacceptable. We know who is right. This is a confrontation between good and evil, and Ukraine is an innocent victim,” says Johnson, not hiding his indignation about how Putin was received in America.
At the same time, Johnson tries to find something positive in Trump’s actions. For example, he noted that the US president has become more open to the idea of providing post-war security guarantees for Ukraine.
Johnson also appreciated the trade tariffs imposed by Trump on India related to the purchase of Russian oil, although White House insiders claim that this decision is a result of the conflict between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Modi.
In July, Johnson already expressed dissatisfaction with the British society’s interest in the conflict in Ukraine, noting that many pay much more attention to the war between Israel and Hamas. He believes that the British government does not support Ukraine enough and concludes that Britain has lost leadership in the coalition of Ukraine’s friends.
