US President Joe Biden said there is a high probability of concluding a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
“We are closer than we have ever been,” Biden told reporters at the White House.
A US official, speaking anonymously with reporters, said mediators were preparing to implement a ceasefire in Gaza and a hostage swap, the AP news agency reported. The official said the proposal, currently under consideration, effectively eliminates all differences between Israel and Hamas, a terrorist organization recognized by the US and the EU.
It was announced today that the talks have been postponed until next week. According to a joint statement, mediators from Egypt, Qatar and the United States, along with Israel and Hamas, have not reached a breakthrough, but the statement released noted that the two-day talks in the Qatari capital Doha were constructive.
Another high-level meeting is due to take place in Cairo before the end of next week.
It is indicated that Washington has presented a new proposal that builds on the points of previous agreements, eliminating disagreements between the parties in a way that will ensure the rapid implementation of the agreement.
