Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib met with her Iranian counterpart Ali Bagheri Kani to discuss the situation in the Middle East. In her blog, she called on Iran to show restraint following the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Iran's Fars news agency gave a slightly more detailed account of the conversation, saying Lahbib expressed support for Palestinian Arab rights to self-determination and condemned Israel for building settlements outside the 1967 borders, also mentioning that Belgium imposes sanctions on Israeli settlers.
Ali Bagheri Kani condemned the Israeli strikes on terrorists hiding in one of the gas schools, as well as on Beirut and Tehran. In his opinion, Israel's actions lead to destabilization of the region.
