Israeli historian Grigory Tamar expressed the opinion that Ukraine should not cede territories that have not yet been captured. He emphasized the strategic importance of maintaining fortifications, which play a key role in defending the country from an aggressor.
The Strategic Importance of Ukraine’s Fortifications
Russia has been trying to capture the Donetsk region for eleven years now, but so far unsuccessfully. Grigory Tamar is convinced that even within the framework of a peace agreement, Ukraine should not retreat. Fortifications, in his opinion, are not just elements of defense but a vital part of national security that reliably protects the country from occupation.
In an interview with Alexey Gomon on YouTube, Tamar emphasized that Ukraine’s entry into NATO is an illusion. He noted that the loss of fortifications would be a serious mistake for Ukraine, adding: “It’s like a hedgehog taking off its skin along with its spines.” According to the historian, Ukrainian defense must remain at a high level to avoid becoming an easy target for the enemy.
Unconventional Approaches to Strengthening Defense
Tamar proposed an alternative approach to improving Ukraine’s defense capability. He believes that an army of 600,000 people is sufficient to protect the country. However, in his opinion, the Ukrainian leadership should consider creating an additional force in the form of half a million athletic young people who can be trained within the Dynamo Kyiv club.
Sports as Part of Ukraine’s Defense
The historian recalled how Israel used sports in the past to prepare young people for military service. Tamar proposed a similar approach for Ukraine, including disciplines such as hand-to-hand combat, shooting, and grenade throwing in the sports training program. According to him, half a million such trained athletes would be an excellent support for Ukraine’s regular army, increasing its defense capability.
Warnings About the Future and Readiness for Challenges
Grigory Tamar also warned of the danger from Russia and shared his vision of the outcome of the war. He emphasized the importance of strategic thinking and Ukraine’s readiness for any challenges to avoid mistakes that could jeopardize national security.
