The American capital became the site of a symbolic event reminiscent of the tragedy of the war.
Near the Washington Monument, 600 teddy bears with the names of Ukrainian children who died as a result of Russian aggression were laid out.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, as of November 19, 2024:
- 592 children died.
- 1702 children were injured.
The tragedy unfolding in Ukraine resonates with people around the world, including American citizens who actively support the country.
Memorial event: symbol of tragedy
The organizer of the initiative was the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Oksana Markarova, which emphasized November 30, 2024:
“This is an important reminder of the heinous crimes being committed against our families.”
The bears were purchased with donations from American children. After the campaign, the toys will be sent to orphanages and hospitals in Ukraine to bring joy to little Ukrainians.
Humanitarian mission: helping the children of Ukraine
The purpose of the action is not only to honor the memory of the victims, but also to remind them of the importance of help:
- The toys will be sent to shelters and hospitals.
- The action brought together people of different nationalities.
As Oksana Markarova emphasized:
“We are fighting for peace and freedom for the children of Ukraine. Seeing the joy in their eyes is our main victory.”
The rally at the Washington Monument became a symbol of US solidarity with Ukraine. She emphasizes the inextricable link between the humanitarian mission and the memory of the tragedy.
