Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised on September 1 to “pay back” the Hamas group (recognized as terrorist by the EU and the US) after the bodies of hostages were found in the Gaza Strip.

“Those who kill hostages do not want an agreement” on a truce, Netanyahu addressed the leaders of Hamas, declaring that “we (Israel – ed.) will pursue you, we will catch you and we will settle the score.”

The Israeli prime minister also blamed Hamas for a September 1 shooting near the occupied West Bank city of Hebron that killed three police officers.

“The fact that Hamas continues to commit acts like those it committed on October 7 (2023) obliges us to do everything possible to make sure that it can no longer do so,” Netanyahu said.

Hamas did not claim responsibility for the West Bank attack but called it a “heroic resistance operation.”

On September 1, the Israeli military reported that it had found the bodies of six hostages kidnapped on October 7, 2023, in the Gaza Strip. They are Eden Yerushalmi, Ori Danino, Carmel Gat, Gersh Goldberg-Polin, Almog Saroussi and Alexander Lobanov. The latter, in addition to Israeli, also had Russian citizenship.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesperson's Unit said all six were killed recently. The bodies were found in an underground tunnel in the southern Gaza Strip, not far from where hostage Kaweed Farhan al-Qadi was freed on August 27. It is not known whether al-Qadi's release is related to their deaths.
