During the 11 months of the war in the sector, at least 17,000 militants were killed, the source said. This is 41% of the officially declared victims on the Palestinian side. Even using terrorists' estimates, the number of collateral civilian casualties was very low, amounting to 1.5 people for every militant killed.
Of the 17,000 militants killed, the IDF managed to clearly identify 10,000. This is a credit to the intelligence services, given the difficulty of identifying the killed Gazan groups. Hamas, on the other hand, covers up the killed as ordinary people, complicating the calculations and determining the real number of militants.
The IDF estimates that Hamas had about 30,000 fighters in the Strip at the start of the war. The military believes that the total number of terrorists in the region could reach 60,000, and only a fraction of them have already been killed.
