On December 2, 2026, a screening of the Ukrainian film “To the Victory!” directed by Valentyn Vasyanovych will take place in Tel Aviv. The film, which received the main award of the Platform competition program at the Toronto International Film Festival and three prizes at the Odesa Film Festival, will be presented by the project “Знято в Україні / Created in Ukraine”. The time, venue, and ticket information will be announced later.

The organizers have already opened a Facebook event page, where viewers can follow the news about the upcoming screening.

Victory, after which life does not become simple

“To the Victory!” is an ironic tragicomedy about the future of Ukraine after the end of the war. Valentyn Vasyanovych offers to imagine a situation where victory has already been achieved, but people have to learn to live anew.

The main character is a film director who stayed in Ukraine. His wife and daughter have started a new life in Vienna and are in no hurry to return. His teenage son remains with him. There is almost no work, relationships with loved ones have changed, and the familiar world that existed before the war can no longer be restored in its previous form.

Vasyanovych tells about this with humor, sometimes bringing the events to absurdity. The film includes male friendship, family conflicts, creative failures, and attempts to maintain closeness with people whom the war has scattered across different countries.

The peculiarity of the film is that Vasyanovych himself played the main role, and along with him, his long-time colleagues appeared on screen, playing versions of themselves. Among them are production designer Vladlen Odudenko, cinematographer Mykhailo Liubarskyi, and sound director Serhiy Stepanskyi.

The line between fiction and the real experiences of people who continue to work in Ukrainian cinema during the war is deliberately blurred here.

The film received international recognition

The world premiere of “To the Victory!” took place in September 2025 at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival.

The film became the first Ukrainian film included in the Platform competition program and received its main prize.

In September 2026, the film won three awards at the 17th Odesa International Film Festival: the “Golden Duke” for the best Ukrainian feature film, the FIPRESCI international film critics award, and a special MEGOGO award.

The film was created by Ukrainian companies Arsenal Films and ForeFilms in collaboration with Lithuanian M-Films. The film’s duration is 105 minutes, and the original language is Ukrainian.

“To the Victory!” has already been shown in Israel

The Israeli premiere took place in July 2026 at the 43rd Jerusalem Film Festival. The film participated in the international competition under the title To the Victory!, and in Hebrew, it was presented as “אל הניצחון”.

At that time, screenings were held at the Jerusalem Cinematheque with subtitles in Hebrew and English.

НАновости previously reported on the participation of Ukrainian films in the 2026 Jerusalem Film Festival, including Vasyanovych’s film.

For the director, this is not the first recognition in Israel. In 2020, his film “Atlantis” received the award for the best film in the international competition of the Jerusalem Film Festival.
