Trump and Netanyahu: A New Chapter in Gaza
U.S. President Donald Trump announced the possibility of resuming hostilities in Gaza if Hamas does not comply with the terms of the truce. In an interview with CNN, he emphasized that Israeli forces are ready to act at his signal.
These words came amid Israel’s accusations against Hamas of violating the hostage transfer agreement. Trump expressed confidence in a quick resolution of the situation.
Peace Plan and Its Implementation
The fourth point of Trump’s Middle East peace plan requires the return of all hostages within 72 hours after the agreement is adopted. By the morning of October 15, 20 captives had been handed over to Tel Aviv, but the bodies of all the deceased have not yet been returned.
U.S. Reaction and Hamas Efforts
U.S. advisors reported that Washington does not consider Hamas’s actions a violation of the truce. The group assured that it would make efforts to find and return the remaining bodies. The American side actively supports this process, providing intelligence and logistical assistance.
Trump also suggested that Hamas might be involved in fighting bandit groups in the territory.
Truce and Its Guarantees
On October 13, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the U.S. signed a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. Trump announced the end of the war in the region.
The truce, the release of hostages, and the promise of a future Palestinian state remain in question. In Vyacheslav Likhachev’s article “Trump’s Plan for Gaza: A Historic Chance for Peace or Another Illusion?” the prospects of this process are examined.
