Lavrov’s Speech at the UN General Assembly
On September 27, 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke at the UN General Assembly, addressing topics concerning Ukraine and NATO countries. His words were directed against Israel, which was accused of attempting to undermine stability in the Middle East.
Criticism of Israel and NATO
Lavrov criticized Israel for the “illegal use of force against Palestinians.” According to him, this leads to “aggressive actions” against countries such as Iran, Qatar, Lebanon, and others. He condemned Israel’s ongoing military operation against Hamas, stating:
“There is no justification for the collective punishment of Palestinians in Gaza. Children are dying under bombardments, hospitals and schools are being destroyed.”
“Hundreds of thousands of people are left homeless,” he added, emphasizing the inadmissibility of plans to annex the West Bank of the Jordan River.
NATO was also criticized.
“The alliance continues to expand towards Russia’s borders, despite earlier promises not to move eastward,” Lavrov noted. This situation threatens not only Russia but “all of Eurasia.”
According to the Foreign Minister, NATO’s expansion makes threats to the Russian side increasingly relevant. Lavrov emphasized: “Any aggression against my country will be met with a decisive response. There should be no doubt about this.”
Relations with the USA and the Situation in Ukraine
Meanwhile, Sergey Lavrov touched on issues of “responsibility of Russia and the USA to prevent a world war.” He stressed the importance of extending the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty, which was previously mentioned by Russian dictator Putin. In his opinion, this “will help avoid a new arms race, but Washington’s reciprocal measures play a key role.”
Regarding Ukraine, Lavrov claims that the current leadership in Kyiv came to power as a “result of a coup.” He also noted that Ukraine is “the only country in the world that has banned its citizens from speaking their native language,” and accused the West of remaining silent about Kyiv’s actions, including sabotage at nuclear power plants.
Negotiations and International Initiatives
Noting that the return of Ukraine to the 2022 borders is “impossible,” Lavrov added that Moscow is “open to negotiations aimed at addressing the root causes of the conflict.” This “emphasizes the readiness of the Russian authorities for dialogue.”
In conclusion, the minister proposed declaring December 14 as the International Day for the Fight Against Colonialism, noting the “importance of this date in the context of global politics.”
