A Long Road to…

Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the recognition of the State of Palestine. In his official address, he pointed out that peace talks in Gaza were at risk due to the actions of both Israel and Hamas.

Carney: “Since 1947, Canada has advocated for the creation of two states as a way to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East, but these efforts are constantly thwarted.” According to Carney, this is facilitated by the actions of Hamas, settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, as well as violence from settlers.

Hamas Activities

Carney noted that Hamas causes terrible suffering to both Israelis and Gaza residents. He emphasized the need for the release of all hostages and the complete disarmament of Hamas so that this movement does not play a role in governing Palestine in the future.

Israel and Its Policy

According to Carney, Israel is actively working to prevent the creation of a Palestinian state. He stressed that Israel continues to expand its settlements in the West Bank, which contradicts international law. This policy corresponds to “strikes that have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians, displaced over a million people, and caused hunger.”

Australia

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also announced the recognition of Palestine. He also emphasized the need for the creation of two states as a path to peace. According to him, this step reflects Australia’s consistent commitment to a two-state solution.

United Kingdom

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also declared the recognition of Palestine, adding that it would “revive hope for peace.” He noted that Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live without suffering and violence, to have the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

New Steps on the International Stage

As part of the 80th UN General Assembly, recognition of Palestine is expected by other Western countries, including France and Belgium.
