On April 24, 2025, a unique event dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust will take place in Haifa. This project is organized by the Ukrainian Cultural Development Center “We Together!” in Haifa in cooperation with the organization “זיכרון בסלון” (Zikaron BaSalon). As part of the event, named “Memory in the Living Room”, Haifa residents will have the opportunity to meet those who survived the Catastrophe and hear their live testimonies. This event will be an important step in preserving the memory of a tragedy that should not be forgotten by either the Jewish or Ukrainian people.
When and where will the event take place?
Date: April 24, 2025
Time: 15:30
Place: Haifa, Derech Atzmaut, 62
The project offers an alternative to traditional memorial ceremonies often held in museums or on television. Here, in the cozy atmosphere of a living room, people will not only listen to the witnesses’ stories but also actively participate in preserving the memory of the Holocaust tragedy.
What will happen?
The “Memory in the Living Room” project offers to create an emotionally charged space for meetings with Holocaust survivors. In this format, guests will be able to communicate with those who experienced this tragedy, learn about events from those years from the first-hand accounts, and understand how important it is to preserve the memory of the past. It is expected that guests will not only listen but also actively participate in discussions, sharing their memories and impressions.
“We invite you and your children to the meeting to pass on these memories to future generations,” say the organizers.
Partner film about the rescue of a Jewish family by a Ukrainian family
One of the highlights of the evening will be the screening of a film prepared by partners from the organization Centropa. This film is based on real historical facts and tells the story of a Jewish family from Rivne, saved from death by a Ukrainian family during the Nazi occupation. This film will be an important part of the evening, showcasing an example of cooperation between Jewish and Ukrainian families during the tragedy.
Project Idea: An Alternative to Official Ceremonies
The project “Memory in the Living Room” has become an alternative to traditional memorial events and television programs. The main goal is to create an informal atmosphere where people can not only hear testimonies but also become part of the memory preservation process. This form of participation in the project makes it especially important and personal for each participant.
The project works in cooperation with the organization “זיכרון בסלון” (Zikaron BaSalon), which has been holding meetings worldwide as part of the “Memory in the Living Room” tradition for many years. This organization helps create such meetings in people’s homes, making participation in the project unique and allowing everyone to deeply understand the tragedy of the Holocaust.

“We will be joined by living witnesses and participants of those events who will share their memories in the cozy atmosphere of the “Memory Living Room”.
Preserving memory and honoring those who survived the Catastrophe are the most important aspects of the cultural and historical memory of the Jewish and Ukrainian peoples. We look forward to meeting you and your children, who will then pass these stories and memories to their children.”
We will also show you a film from our partner organization Centropa, based on documented facts of the story of a Jewish family from Rivne during the Nazi occupation in WWII, who were saved from death by a Ukrainian family.”
