UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has hope that after 14 years of terrible war and the overthrow of the dictatorial regime in Syria, the people of this country will be able to create a stable and peaceful future.
He stated this in his speech.
Guterres stressed that the Syrians themselves must determine what the future of their country will be. He also noted that much work remains to be done to ensure an “orderly political transition to renewed institutions.” The UN Secretary General called for calm and non-interference in this difficult time. He noted that the inviolability of diplomatic and consular institutions must be respected in accordance with international law.
“Syria’s sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity must be restored… We remain committed to helping Syrians develop a country where reconciliation, justice, freedom and prosperity are a common reality for all,” the UN Secretary General emphasized.
