In the Middle East, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said events in Syria showed “full coordination” between Israel, the United States and terrorist groups. He appeared on Iranian television Monday night after visiting Damascus and Ankara to discuss helping Bashar al-Assad's regime fight rebels.
The minister visited Damascus for consultations on the latest events in Syria, including the terrorist attack on Aleppo. He also conveyed a message from the Islamic Republic of Iran to support the Syrian government and the president. Araqchi stressed that the rebel plot was developed by the American and Zionist regimes.
Full coordination between Israel, the United States and terrorist groups was announced. This became obvious after the attack, which occurred immediately after the ceasefire in Lebanon, the minister noted. He announced a meeting with Turkish colleagues and plans to resume the Astana process.
The lengthy negotiations within Astana, known as the Astana format, began in 2017 and have held 21 meetings so far. The format involves Russia, Iran, Türkiye, the Syrian government and opposition, the UN and observers from Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. “The Astana process continues to exist, and its importance is recognized by the international community,” stressed Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai.
