According to journalists' reports, the regime for holding Arab terrorists in the Ofer prison near Jerusalem has been significantly tightened. Previously used for leisure purposes, such as gyms and canteens, have been converted into additional cells, stripped of electrical appliances and televisions. Terrorists are prohibited from preparing their own food and spend most of their time in cells.
The showers in each cell are now closed and all prisoners use collective showers. Terrorists are only allowed to wear prison uniforms, not civilian clothes. The previously privileged position of these prisoners is considered lost, and their conditions of detention are seriously tightened. Israeli security forces opposed tightening the regime for terrorists, but nevertheless, the instructions of the Minister of National Security were carried out.
Before the October attack, Israeli authorities had a policy of maintaining terrorist detention conditions for security reasons. However, after the start of the war, prison conditions became much stricter, which caused discontent among left-wing organizations. The main question is whether conditions of detention will be maintained after the war and the end of the state of emergency in prisons.
