On November 21, 2021, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. According to the court's website on November 21, they are suspected of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

The ICC also announced that it had issued an arrest warrant for the leader of the military wing of the Hamas group (recognized as terrorist in the US and EU), Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri, known as Mohammed Deif. In August 2024, the Israel Defense Forces announced the death of Deif as a result of a strike in the Khan Yunis area.

Earlier, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as three leaders of the Hamas group.

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar commented on the decision of the International Criminal Court in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Galant: “From a moral point of view, this is an unjust decision that turns good into evil. From a political point of view, issuing such orders against a country acting in accordance with international law is a reward and encouragement to the axis of evil that is flagrantly and systematically violating it. Decent countries and every decent person in the world should reject this injustice with disgust.”

The Israeli opposition condemns the decision of the International Court of Justice to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Galant.

Lapid: “I condemn the decision of the Hague court, Israel is defending itself from terrorist organizations that have attacked, killed and raped our citizens. These warrants are a reward for terrorism.”

Ganz: “The decision of the Hague Tribunal is a moral blindness and a historical shame that will never be erased.”
