Republicans won a majority in the Senate in the US elections.

Following the results of the midterm elections in the United States, the Republican Party regained control of the Senate after four years of defeats. According to Politico and The New York Times, Republicans picked up at least two additional seats previously held by Democrats, giving them a razor-thin 51-49 majority.

Significant Republican victories were recorded in key states including West Virginia, Ohio and Nebraska. There were close races in Ohio and Montana, where Democrats had previously held significant influence, but Trump won the presidency. These states became decisive for the Republicans to regain control of the Senate.

The change of power in the Senate occurs against the backdrop of the end of the career of one of the most influential Republicans, Mitch McConnell. Several prominent party figures such as John Tan, John Cornyn and Rick Scott are expected to be in the running to become Senate Republican leader.

The Republican majority in the Senate gives Donald Trump a significant advantage as president. However, most decisions require 60 votes, forcing Republicans to seek compromises with Democrats. Some Republican senators do not always support Trump's positions, which could affect party unity.
