US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that in response to Iran's Oct. 1 rocket attack, Israel should not deepen the conflict, and also called for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to fighting in Lebanon. Blinken said Israel should use its military successes to achieve long-term strategic goals. Such statements are reported by Reuters.
Following talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the secretary of state stressed the need to focus on returning the hostages, resolving the conflict and developing a clear plan for the future as he prepares for his trip to Saudi Arabia. Following Iran's response to a missile attack on Israel in early October, the White House warned of possible serious consequences for Tehran.
US actions are aimed at ending the fire and violence in the region, as well as supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Stressing the importance of preventing further escalation of the conflict, Blinken noted the need to focus on peaceful solutions and a sustainable ceasefire:
“All parties to the conflict must show responsibility and readiness for dialogue to achieve stability and security in the region.”
