For the first time since October 7, the UN Security Council held a meeting dedicated to the fate of the kidnapped Israelis. The meeting was initiated by the Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN. Having stated the need to discuss this important topic, Danny Danon expressed gratitude for the support of the United States, Great Britain and France.
UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo called for the release of the kidnapped and condemned the killing of six hostages by Hamas. She expressed gratitude to the IDF for helping vaccinate children in the Gaza Strip. Dr. Efrat Bron Har-Lev of Israel's Schneider Children's Hospital spoke about the consequences for children held captive by Hamas.
B'Tselem's Yuli Novak said the Israeli government has no need for abductee deals and that the goal is to advance Jewish supremacy. Novak said many Israelis are worried about more war crimes. US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield pledged to do everything possible to bring back the abductees' loved ones from captivity and condemned Hamas, calling on the UN Security Council to join in condemning it.
