On Friday, August 30, 2024, the Israel Defense Forces concluded a three-week operation in the southern Gaza Strip. During the operation, 6 km of underground tunnels were destroyed and more than 250 Hamas militants were killed. The event was reported by the Israeli newspaper The Times of Israel. The bodies of six hostages in Khan Yunis were also found.
The Israeli military reported that sappers destroyed six tunnels belonging to terrorist groups, with a total length of about six kilometers. During the operation, areas where terrorists were located were also destroyed and their weapons were found. The IDF assures that Palestinians can return to areas that were excluded from the humanitarian zone before the operation.
The IDF's 98th Division began its raid in Khan Yunis and the Deir el-Balah area in early August. The division withdrew from Gaza on the morning of August 30 and is preparing for further operations.
