The Ukrainian defense forces' invasion of the Kursk region showed that the Kremlin's threats were just a hoax. According to The Washington Post, Putin's reaction was incomparably more passive than his threats at the beginning of the war.
He promised to ensure Russia's territorial integrity “by all available means,” but now the dictator prefers to forget about it. The Ukrainian offensive has also exposed Russia's military shortcomings and destroyed the illusion of Moscow's red lines.
The strike in Kursk also showed the ineffectiveness of Washington's tactics of limiting aid to Ukraine. It turned out that Moscow had already exhausted its resources in this war and was incapable of further escalation. Of course, all of Russia's threats turned out to be just an empty bluff. The Kremlin is trying to maintain red lines, but Ukraine continues to overcome them, demonstrating its combat capability.
The equipment used by Ukrainian forces, such as HIMARS, tanks, ATACMS and F-16s, may have been considered red lines in the past, but they are now being actively used in the fight. The West must change its tactics and start providing real assistance to Ukraine, which has clearly proven its ability to win. In particular, the Ukrainians should be allowed to use Western weapons deep inside Russia.
