US Secretary of State Antony Blinken concluded his visit to Qatar and stressed that Israel must accept the US offer of a ceasefire and negotiations with Hamas.
Qatar, which has ties to Hamas, is actively trying to persuade the group to reach an agreement in the coming days, a proposal Blinken said was necessary to prevent a regional war and was supported by efforts by Egypt and Qatar.
Building on President Joe Biden's May initiative, the US initiative awaits a response from Hamas, with discussions on the details of a possible agreement to begin after that.
