The US amphibious assault ship will carry out a mission to provide security and support to allies in Cyprus.

On August 8, the American landing ship USS Wasp arrived in Cyprus and docked in the port of Limassol. US Ambassador to Cyprus Julie Fisher said the ship could be used to support civilians in the event of a war. The Republic of Cyprus is part of the EU and is ready to help evacuate citizens amid growing tensions between Israel and Iran.

The Cypriot government has expressed its readiness to provide humanitarian aid in the crisis. There are two British military air bases in Cyprus, from one of which the US and UK have carried out strikes against Iranian proxy forces. Pro-Iranian groups have threatened Cyprus, accusing it of collaborating with Israel and calling for resistance against the “enemy.”

Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said opening Cyprus airports to Israel puts Cyprus on the war's side and could make it a target for missiles. The situation in the Middle East remains tense, and the arrival of a US ship in Cyprus has raised concerns across the region.
