Russian dictator Putin has increasingly expressed anti-Israeli positions and strengthened his justification for Iranian aggression.
Experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) came to this conclusion after analyzing statements by Russian authorities regarding the assassination of Hamas Politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Israel carried out the strike that killed Haniyeh in Tehran in order to disrupt attempts to establish peace in the Middle East.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also “strongly condemned” Haniyeh’s murder and stressed that it occurred during his visit to Tehran for the inauguration of President Masoud Pezeshkian. Although the Russian Foreign Ministry did not directly blame Israel, it said that “the organizers of this political murder” were aware of the “dangerous consequences” for the entire region.
