Master's student Eden Shalom from Shenkar College has developed an innovative biodegradable plastic made from soy protein. In collaboration with researchers from Tel Aviv University, the material was created that could be a solution to the global plastic crisis. The soy-based bioplastic is durable and strong, while being completely biodegradable.

Eden explains that the choice of soy protein is due to its abundance and availability as a natural resource. The new bioplastic can be used for food packaging, replacing plastic film in agriculture, or even as a soil fertiliser. Edible packaging and extending the shelf life of food with the new film could help fight world hunger.
