Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's prime minister, has been given government authority to plan a response to the Islamic group Hezbollah's rocket attack on the Golan Heights that killed more than 12 people and wounded dozens more.

Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant must decide on the method and timing of their response to the actions of the terrorist organization Hezbollah.
On the evening of July 27, a rocket attack by the Lebanese Hezbollah group hit a soccer field in the northern town of Majdal Shams in Israel. IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said 11 people were killed and about 30 wounded in the attack. The rocket attack is considered the worst attack on civilians since the Hamas attack in 2023.
On June 24, a US general warned that an Israeli military offensive against Lebanon could lead to Iran's response to Hezbollah and trigger a wider conflict. On June 29, Iran's UN mission said that an Israeli attack on Lebanon would trigger a “war of annihilation,” with the possible full involvement of all resistance fronts.
